InfraBuild is a key part of Australia’s manufacturing industry as Australia’s largest vertically integrated, electric arc furnace-based steel long products manufacturer, the country’s second-largest metals recycler and the lowest carbon intensity steel producer in the nation. We have an important role to play in the transformation of a traditionally high-emission industry as it looks to a decarbonised future.
InfraBuild is committed to genuine sustainability leadership through innovation and technology that balances efficiency, impact, and sets a new benchmark for cleaner and more sustainable steel. This commitment reflects InfraBuild’s broader vision for resilient and sustainable steel industry that contributes positively to the communities and markets we serve.
InfraBuild has defined a decarbonising approach based on three main principles: avoiding emissions through circularity, shifting to sustainable materials, and transitioning to renewable energy.
InfraBuild is positively working towards this approach through the utilisation of ferrous scrap steel as feedstock, diverted from landfill. Our own steel scrap-based steelmaking process generates approximately 77% less CO2-e emissions compared to the World steel association average blast-furnace based steelmakers, furthermore successful trials of biochar as a carbon (coke) substitute within steelmaking operations are a positive Scope 1 GHG Emission Reduction Initiative.
The introduction of our award-wining SENSE600® reinforcing steel delivers the same strength and performance while using 16.7% less raw materials and reducing embodied carbon by up to 49% against NABERS embodied carbon database for reinforcing steel.
Our rich 110-year heritage, the performance of our products and enduring nature of our relationships is of absolute importance, we are a trusted partner that empowers customers to create tomorrow’s building and infrastructure while supporting customers to work towards today’s sustainability goals.
