Sea to Summit was founded in 1991 by Australian outdoor innovator Roland Tyson, whose passion for adventure and design began years earlier when he started making gear on an industrial sewing machine in his childhood bedroom. Built on a philosophy of practical innovation and real-world testing, Sea to Summit has grown from a small Australian business into a global outdoor equipment brand. The company’s early years were shaped by hands-on exploration. In 1993, Roland was joined by Penny Sanderson, bringing deep experience in storytelling, exploration and product development. Together, they spent months each year climbing, trekking, sailing and travelling, using these experiences to rigorously test products and refine designs. This commitment to durability, performance, and responsible design remains central to the brand today. Sea to Summit designs and distributes a broad range of adventure equipment, including sleeping bags, sleeping mats, tents, dry bags, camp kitchen products and outdoor accessories. Today, Sea to Summit operates globally, with products sold in more than 70 countries. In 2022, Sea to Summit transitioned from an owner-led business to a private equity backed model, partnering with certified B Corporation Five V Capital as majority shareholder.
