Science Based Targets initiative launched

UN Global Compact Network Australia | January 21, 2015

The UN Global Compact, CDP, World Resources Institute and WWF have launched the Science Based Targets initiative (sciencebasedtargets.org).

Science Based Targets aims to encourage businesses to take swift climate action by setting new, ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. It was formed as a response to the urgent call of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to decarbonise the economy.

The initiative adopts a scientific approach to climate action in line with the latest IPCC report, and stresses the key role played by corporations in successfully addressing the climate threat by limiting and reducing GHG emissions at the rate suggested by climate scientists.

Read more about the initiative here, and stay tuned – we will be bringing you more details on Science Based Targets and related initiatives soon.
