The UN Global Compact Network Australia invites you to Australia’s annual national multi-sector, multi stakeholder forum dedicated to advancing the Australian anti-bribery and corruption agenda.
The Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) movement continues to rapidly re-shape the Australian and global business landscape. Bribery and corruption is a corrosive force that undermines sustainable development and progress towards achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. High profile examples of corruption continue to undermine progress in all three areas of ESG, also causing significant legal and reputational damage to businesses.
Complementing last year’s exploration of Future frontiers in Australian integrity frameworks, the 2024 Dialogue will explore the critical impacts that bribery and corruption has on public welfare and explore the Transformational Governance movement as a counter to these issues. The event will provide an opportunity to hear from leading government agencies, business leaders, non-governmental organisations and academics.
Dialogue sessions will address topics including:
- Unearthing corruption risks in the green transition
- The role of corruption in fuelling social issues
- Australia’s foreign bribery reforms

Panel discussion “E”: Unearthing corruption risks in the green transition
Facilitated by Franki Ganter, Allens, this panel will identify the opportunities being rapidly mobilised for the green transition and consider the heightened risks for corruption – both in Australia and globally.
Considering the urgency of a climate response, this session will highlight the need to prevent and detect corruption to safeguard the integrity of the green transition.

Panel discussion “S”: The role of corruption in fuelling social issues
Following morning tea, our second panel will explore how corruption can undermine social well-being and consider the intersections between social agendas and corruption, focusing on emerging risks for Australian companies, beyond Modern Slavery compliance.
This panel will explore motivations and drivers to break the cycle and address the root causes of these forms of corruption – and the role of responsible businesses.

Panel discussion “G”: Preparing for Australia’s foreign bribery reforms
Following lunch, our third panel will provide oversight into the upcoming updates to Australia’s integrity frameworks. On the immediate horizon are amendments made by the Combatting Foreign Bribery Bill – commencing on 8 September 2024, notably including a new corporate offence for failing to prevent bribery of a foreign public official.
This session will explore government expectations of business and practical ways to prepare for legislative changes, including updating their anti-bribery procedures and utilising resources, such as the Bribery Prevention Network.

Workshop: Practical exercise on updating anti-bribery procedures
With the ‘failure to prevent offence’ taking effect from 8 September 2024, companies need to ensure that they have “adequate procedures” in place to prevent foreign bribery by associates before that date.
This workshop will consider responses businesses should take through practical applications informed by the Allens team.
