Tim Robinson

Chief Compliance Officer, BHP

Tim is a lawyer with extensive international experience assisting multinational companies to operate with confidence and integrity in higher risk environments.

Tim started his career in commercial litigation and regulatory investigations with top tier firms in Melbourne, Sydney and London before joining BHP in 2011 as Managing Counsel, Anti-Corruption and Trade. Tim worked on the design and implementation of BHP’s enhanced anti-corruption compliance program from around the time of its inception and was closely involved in reporting to the US Securities & Exchange Commission on the compliance program (as required by the order resolving the SEC’s investigation relating to BHP). Tim has worked closely with BHP teams and joint ventures to manage corruption risks in numerous countries including Indonesia, China, West Africa, Mozambique, South Africa, Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Colombia. Tim moved to Orica Ltd as Chief Compliance Officer in 2016 where he led the design and implementation of Orica’s global Ethics & Compliance Program, before rejoining BHP as Chief Compliance Officer in January 2019.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and brings broad experience and perspective on the international regulatory landscape.

Tim was a director of Transparency International Australia until 2018 and is a firm believer in the critical role of the private sector in promoting improved governance of natural resources.
