Megatrends: linking sustainability, strategy and risk

10 Sep
2014

12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Event Details

Global megatrends – such as climate change and resource stress, demographic changes, urbanisation, technology and shifts in economic power – are transforming societies and economies internationally and within Australia at a rapid pace, creating both risks and opportunities for business. Responding to these megatrends provides a key opportunity to embed sustainability into core business activities and strategy.

This forum offers an opportunity to hear from Australian thought leaders in this space over lunch, and explore questions including:

  • What megatrends are relevant to Australian businesses operating domestically and abroad?
  • What do they mean for business? What risks and opportunities do they give rise to?
  • How can megatrends be used to inform the sustainability strategy?
  • How can sustainability professionals use megatrends to influence broader corporate strategy and risk approach?
  • How are leading businesses using megatrends?
  • How is Australian public policy responding, and what does this mean for business?

Panellists:

  • Professor John Thwaites, Chair, Monash Sustainability Institute and ClimateWorks, and Chair, National Sustainability Council which issued Sustainable Australia Report: Conversations with the future
  • Dr Stefan Hajkowicz, Leader, CSIRO Futures and lead author of the CSIRO report Our future world: Global megatrends that will change the way we live
  • Chi Woo, Partner, Climate Change and Sustainability, KPMG
  • Liza Maimone, Partner, Sustainability and Climate Change, PwC
