Event Details

The Global Compact Network Australia and University of Melbourne invite you to a workshop that will bring corporate practitioners and a panel of Indigenous leaders together to discuss the “how to” of Australian businesses respecting and supporting Indigenous rights.

The workshop will provide participants with insights into the history of Indigenous rights in Australia and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to hear the perspectives of Indigenous leaders – including Mick Gooda, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Professor Marcia Langton AM, University of Melbourne, Robynne Quiggin, Australian Indigenous Governance Institute and Hope Perkins, University of Melbourne – on Australian businesses’ successes and challenges regarding the respect and support of Indigenous rights. The discussion will be facilitated by Professor Ian Anderson, Pro Vice Chancellor Engagement and Foundation Chair for Indigenous Higher Education, University of Melbourne.

Key themes including engagement, governance and employment will be explored. Corporate case studies will also be shared and discussed, with the aim of identifying how business can more effectively contribute to the enjoyment of Indigenous rights in Australia. The Chatham House rule will apply to the workshop to encourage open discussion.
