Event Details

The Global Compact Network Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand are pleased to invite you to a lunch with Bob Massie, outgoing President and CEO of New Economy Coalition, co-founder and first chair of the Global Reporting Initiative and initiator of the Investor Network on Climate Risk.

The magnitude and urgency of the global climate challenge are becoming increasingly apparent. As growing numbers of business people are aware, climate change has significant impacts on how businesses operate now and in the future, and poses important new risks and opportunities for their competitiveness, growth and development.

Bob Massie will share an international view of how fast things are moving in the global climate policy space, including the potential for a global climate agreement, and what this means for business. He will also explore the opportunities and challenges offered by the transition to a low carbon economy.
About Bob Massie

Bob Massie is the outgoing President and CEO of the New Economy Coalition, whose mission is to support a just transition to a new economy that enables both thriving communities and ecological health.

During his decades-long career, Bob created and/or led three renowned organisations that kicked off the global corporate sustainability movement. He was president of Ceres, a catalyst for investors, companies and public interest groups to accelerate a sustainable global economy. He co-founded and chaired the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the world’s leading standard for corporate sustainability reporting. He also initiated the Investor Network on Climate Risk, now with over 100 member companies and funds and combined assets over $11 trillion.

In 1998, Bob won the Lionel Gelber Prize for the best book on international relations for Loosing the Bonds: The United States and South Africa in the Apartheid Years. His autobiography, A Song in the Night: A Memoir of Resilience, was published in 2012. He was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts in 1994 and a candidate for the US Senate in 2011.

Bob graduated from Princeton University and Yale Divinity School. He received his doctorate in business policy from Harvard Business School in 1989 and around that time rose as a prominent figure in the global anti-Apartheid movement.
