Ramila Chanisheff

Ramila Chanisheff was born in Urumchi, East Turkistan (Xinjiang, China), and migrated to Australia with her family in 1980. She grew up in Adelaide and has always been an active member of the Uyghur community. She the inaugural and current President of the Australian Uyghur Tangritagh Women’s Association (AUTWA) since its establishment in 2020.

An advocate for human rights and Uyghur issues, Ramila has been involved raising awareness to the harsh human rights abuses committed against her people since 2017, engaging with government, industries and the wider public. Under her leadership, AUTWA has also pursued legal action against Kmart concerning Uyghur forced labour in the clothing supply chains.
