Panel: Federal Regulators on their Anti-Corruption Enforcement Approach

13 Jun

8:00 am - 9:30 pm

Event Details

The UN Global Compact Network Australia invites you to an anti-corruption regulatory panel featuring the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Federal Attorney-General’s Department and the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC).

Recent front-page events have shone a spotlight on bribery and corruption in Australia. It is well understood that Australian criminal laws prohibit such conduct. But how much do you understand about the attitude of the government bodies that administer and enforce this area of law?

  • When should you approach the AFP if there are whispers of corruption in your business?
  • Do you get credit for co-operating with the regulators?
  • Does it matter whether you have comprehensive anti-bribery policies and procedures?
  • Are the directors of your company personally exposed in the event that your company does engage in bribery?
  • Are there any changes to Federal anti-bribery laws in the pipeline?

This forum offers the opportunity to explore these issues and more.
Representatives from the key Federal government bodies with responsibility for anti-bribery laws will present on their respective roles in administering these laws, their co-operative approach to enforcement and their priorities and areas of focus.
Following the formal presentations, you will have the opportunity to ask any burning questions, provide your perspective and engage in discussion about the issues that are particularly relevant to your business during a dedicated question and answer session.

  • Linda Champion, Manager Fraud and Anti-Corruption, Australian Federal Police
  • Tom Sharp, Senior Legal Advisor, Federal Attorney-General’s Department
  • Chris Savundra, Senior Executive Leader – Markets Enforcement, ASIC
  • Facilitator: Rachel Nicolson, Partner, Allens and Director, Global Compact Network Australia

Who should attend?
Addressing corruption requires an integrated whole-of-business approach, and businesses are encouraged to send representatives from risk and compliance, sustainability and corporate responsibility, government and external affairs, legal and management.
