Australian Dialogue on Bribery and Corruption

01 Sep
2016

9:45 am - 4:15 pm

Event Details

The GCNA convened the first national, multi-sector, multi-stakeholder Australian Dialogue on Bribery and Corruption.

The Dialogue provided a critical platform for constructive engagement and open dialogue and contributed to building a national network between Australian businesses, government and regulators, civil society and academics.

Speakers included representatives from the Attorney-General’s Department, AFP, DFAT, ASIC, ANZ Bank, BHP Billiton and others.

There were opportunities to explore the practical steps that need to be taken by different stakeholder groups to strengthen business practices and drive ethical cultures and behaviour to reduce corruption and bribery in Australia and wherever Australian businesses operate.

The Dialogue had two key focus areas:

  • Challenges and solutions in enforcement, and business–regulator engagement
  • How government, business and other stakeholders can work together to drive ethical corporate cultures and behaviour change

The full-day event culminated in recommendations for each stakeholder group to move this agenda forward.

To ensure frank and open discussion, the Dialogue was held under the Chatham House rule.
