National Australia Bank Group is a financial services organisation with over 12.4 million customers and 42,000 people, operating more than 1,800 stores and Service Centres globally. Our major financial services franchises in Australia are complemented by businesses in New Zealand, Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Each of our brands is uniquely positioned, but built on a common commitment to provide our customers with quality products and services, fair fees and charges, and relationships built on the principles of help, guidance and advice.
At NAB, doing the right thing is at the heart of everything we do and our Corporate Responsibility (CR) framework outlines our commitment to creating sustainable shareholder returns by getting the fundamentals right for our customers, being a good employer and addressing our responsibility to society. This is done by making a positive impact through our supply chain, managing the impacts and dependencies of our business on the environment, and supporting our communities.
Our CR strategy, ‘Wealth of Opportunity’, is our promise to create more of what matters to people, communities and the economy. NAB deliver on this promise by helping people have a healthy relationship with money, building prosperous communities, and contributing to a future focused nation. NAB has published 15 business wide CR Commitments which set our priorities in these three key areas for the next five years and these were published in our 2013 Annual Review.
NAB has engaged in a number of initiatives that support the principles of the UN Global Compact including: renewing our long term commitment to closing the gap for Indigenous Australia by publishing our sixth Reconciliation Action Plan this year, maintaining our 2009 accreditation as the largest Fair Trade workplace in the world, implementing a policy to support and provide paid leave to employees who are the victims of domestic violence and maintaining our 2010 carbon neutrality status. Further, NAB continues to offer microfinance programs for financially excluded Australians, providing more than A$100 million in loans since 2003.
