Businesses are a critical actor for the world to achieve net-zero by 2050. Whilst many businesses have traditionally approached climate change as an environmental, economic and risk issue, more recently the broader societal and human rights implications of climate change are gaining attention.

Climate-related events such as Australia’s ‘Black Summer’, record flooding and rainfall in Brazil, record cyclones in the Pacific, prolonged heatwaves in the UK and the locust plagues in east Africa are demonstrative of not only of the environmental consequences of climate change, but of the human dimension of climate change: from the loss of homes leading to widespread displacement; the loss of livestock and key agricultural crops; the increased risks to disease; and, most importantly, the loss of human life.
