Steensen Varming has an innovative and collaborative approach to design that considers the broader social and environmental aspects of our work. As practitioners and advisors in mechanical and electrical engineering, lighting and sustainable design we offer a portfolio of specialist services, integrated solutions and high levels of expertise which spans strategy, design and engineering, supported by a long tradition of collaboration and creative dialogue.

We focus eco-centric rather than ego-centric principles in improving physiology, functionality and environmental performance as essential, positive elements of architecture, human experience and the wider built environment.

We are committed to creating ‘positive environments’, and continuously improving our practices to the benefit of the local and global environment and communities. We are proud to lead by example and consider environmental and social issues to be essential to a responsible business. We exclusively support projects that provide benefit to, and advance society rather than those that irresponsibly exploit others or the environment.

Since our foundation, in 1933, we have attracted gifted people with a shared ethos and commitment to design excellence. Steensen Varming works from a unique One Global Studio approach that is driven by collaboration and knowledge sharing across five countries covering 6 continents, enabled by global technology and a commitment to optimal design solutions. We provide a higher level of expertise by tapping into a collective skill base supported by our local studios’ personal service and understanding of context. We have a history of innovation and industry firsts with many of our solutions being ahead of their time. These are a result of a unique company ethos supporting projects in research and education, health, culture and sustainability. We continue to innovate to meet and exceed the needs of the most challenging projects, to consistently deliver positive outcomes – clients, wider society and indeed the environment are the true judge of our impact.

Through becoming a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), we are committed to expanding our reach and seeking opportunities to further participate and collaborate on projects that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  We will embed the core UNGC principles of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption into our company strategy, culture and operations. Steensen Varming’s range of skills put us in a unique position to comprehensively deal with some of the most important issues of our time, articulated in the 17 clear SDGs which we wholeheartedly embrace and support.
