The Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) will be hosting an industry roundtable with Australia’s Human Rights Commissioner, Edward Santow. This roundtable will support the Australian Human Rights Commission’s consultation on the Human Rights and Technology Discussion Paper, due for release in the coming months.
The Commission is consulting with civil society, academia, industry and government to develop innovative ways to ensure new and emerging technologies protect human rights, and encourage and promote responsible innovation.
The Commission’s Human Rights and Technology Project was launched in July 2018 with an Issues Paper. Following the Project’s first round of consultations and submissions, the Commission will soon release the Discussion Paper that will guide a second phase of consultation. The Discussion Paper will outline interim findings and proposals for reform related to accessible technology and the regulatory implications of human rights compliant Artificial Intelligence (AI). These proposals will be discussed at the roundtable.
