UN Global Compact Network Australia to launch 2022 SDG Ambition Accelerator

Kylie Porter | September 8, 2022

The UN Global Compact Network Australia (UNGCNA), in partnership with Accenture Australia, has launched its second round of the SDG Ambition Accelerator, a six-month programme designed to help Australian organisations set ambitious corporate targets and accelerate the integration of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into core business management.

The programme launch follows last year’s successful SDG Ambition Accelerator which engaged 1,100 companies in more than 80 countries, representing 13 million employees and $2.5 trillion dollars in revenue.

As we approach the 2030 Agenda deadline, companies are increasingly looked at to be part of the solution. We have a unique window of opportunity now to develop post-pandemic business strategies that fully integrate the SDGs and help build more inclusive and sustainable societies.

UNGCNA Executive Director Kylie Porter said, “It is still possible to shift the world towards a 1.5°C trajectory and achieve the SDGs by 2030, but the time to take action is now.”

The programme equips organisations to develop and implement innovative business strategies that significantly increase positive impact on the SDGs. Combining e-learning courses, lectures, capacity-building workshops and peer-learning groups, the programme offers tailored learning and key outcomes.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Module 1: Imagine the Future – 8 weeks
    • Through a global kickoff event, deep-dives, on-demand courses, and working sessions, learn how to align on your vision, prioritise an SDG Ambition Benchmark, and set ambitious goals.
  • Module 2: Sharpen the Vision – 4 weeks
    • Ideate pathways and become equipped to build a business case for an SDG Ambition Benchmark through on-demand courses, facilitated workshops and working sessions.
  • Module 3: Build the Future – 6 weeks
    • Learn how to identify key technologies and capabilities to help implement your goals, craft your pitch, and make a commitment. The programme ends with a regional send-off.

Porter continues, “These benchmarks are applicable across all industries, and their implementation is adaptable, allowing companies to define goals and targets in the areas that are most material for their industry context.”

Join hundreds of participating companies of the UN Global Compact in assessing your current performance, identifying risk areas, discovering new opportunities across business units and functions and taking ambitious business action towards achieving the SDGs.

According to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, “It’s abundantly clear that a much deeper, faster and more ambitious response is needed to unleash the social and economic transformation needed to achieve our 2030 goals.”

Registrations for the programme are open to participating companies of the UNGCNA and will run locally from October through March 2022 with registrations now open. If your business is ready to significantly increase their positive impact on the SDGs, contact the UN Global Compact Network Australia or apply here.
