Rod Pickette

Policy Advisor, Maritime Union of Australia

Rod Pickette is a political economist, policy adviser and advocate, with an Economics Degree from the University of Sydney.  He is based in Canberra.

Rod is currently Policy Adviser, Maritime Union of Australia, a role he has held almost continuously since 2005.  In that role he advises on national maritime transport policy, economic, competition and regulatory policy and strategy.  He also advises on national and international workers capital policy and strategy, spanning all aspects of ESG stewardship, including modern slavery risk in supply chains.

During 2017 and 2018 Rod was the ACTUs Capital Strategies Officer, assisting with implementing the ACTUs workers capital strategy, including the ACTUs international capital strategies program.

Prior to 2005 Rod held a number of senior positions in the Commonwealth and ACT Governments, spanning labour relations, work health and safety, employment, training and business development. Prior to working in the public sector, Rod was a trade union organiser and State Branch official in NSW. Rod Pickette has also been involved in academic teaching and research including in the TAFE and University sector.
