VISION: WaterAid’s vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation.

MISSION: WaterAid transforms lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities. We work with partners and influence decision-makers to maximise impact.

WaterAid is focused on improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for the world’s poorest and most marginalised people. We work in 26 countries across Africa, Asia, the Pacific region and Central America, and campaign both locally and internationally to realise the WaterAid vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation.

Every day millions of people are forced to drink dirty water that causes disease and diarrhoea, claiming the lives of more children every year than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Women and children walk long distances and spend hours collecting unsafe water, because they have no alternative.

Safe water and effective sanitation are essential for people’s health, education and livelihoods, underpinning development progress and forming the first, essential step in overcoming poverty. By improving access to these essentials, WaterAid helps to prevent water-related diseases, reduce deaths linked to unsafe water, freeing up income otherwise spent on medical treatment, gives children more time to attend school and offers adults the opportunity to improve their livelihoods.

WaterAid was established by the water sector in Australia and the water industry remains the mainstay of WaterAid’s success over the past years. Corporate partnerships are critical to success, not only in terms of raising valuable funds, but also in ensuring WaterAid has a strong voice in campaigning governments locally and in the countries in which we work to help us solve the water and sanitation crisis in developing countries.

Through a partnership with WaterAid, companies can strengthen their corporate social responsibility and sustainability programmes, commit action toward the UN Millennium Development Goals and bring life-saving clean water and sanitation to the world’s poorest communities.

As a signatory to the UN Global Compact, WaterAid is able to show leadership in the not-for-profit sector and ensure our policies align with ten universally accepted principles addressing human rights, labour standards, environment, and anti-corruption.

WaterAid is committed to the CEO Water Mandate an advises companies on how they can both protect their water supply needs and ensure poor, rural communities have access to clean water. This is an important element of WaterAid’s work with global corporate partners.
