Event Details

The Global Compact Network Australia invites you to a webinar on the Precautionary Principle – the internationally-recognised principle that guides the management of environmental and social impacts and risks – and what it means for Australian businesses’ sustainability approaches.

The Global Compact’s seventh principle states ‘business should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges’. At the heart of the Principle is the idea that, from a business perspective, prevention is better than cure. This webinar will delve into what the Precautionary Principle actually means in practice, how Australian businesses can take meaningful steps to manage environmental risks and how they can take a proactive approach to sustainability.

Meg Lee, Managing Associate in Allens’ Environment team, will provide participants with an overview of the Principle and highlight the range of successful ways businesses have approached it. Darragh Brennan, Sustainability and Communications Manager, Solaris Paper, will then unpack the steps his company takes to support the Precautionary Principle. The included a comprehensive multis-takeholder process to ensure best environmental practices throughout the region. An open discussion will follow, with participants invited to share their views on the Principle or ask any questions.

Presenters:

Meg Lee, Managing Associate, Allens

Darragh Brennan, Sustainability and Communications Manager, Solaris Paper
