St Barbara


St Barbara Limited is an ASX 200 Asia-Pacific gold producer and explorer. St Barbara’s key assets include the high grade Gwalia underground mine at Leonora in Western Australia and the Simberi open pit mine on Simberi Island in Papua New Guinea. In addition to these assets, the Company also has over 2,000 km2 of granted exploration tenements in Australia and Papua New Guinea. The Company is focused on near-term growth options at both mines and also evaluating inorganic growth opportunities in Australia and overseas.

St Barbara employs approximately 250 employees and 500 contractors in Australia; and approximately 750 employees and 450 contactors in Simberi, PNG.

St Barbara is proud of its strong safety, environment and community focus, and has won a variety of industry awards, including ‘Water Wise’ awards in 2013 and 2014; and a ‘Golden Gecko’ environmental Certificate of Merit in 2015.

St Barbara has been recognised as an Australian mining industry leader in gender diversity, by being awarded the ‘Women in Resources National Award’ in 2014 and 2017, and the AMMA ‘Australian Women in Resources Alliance Award’ in 2018. St Barbara has also been recognised by the Federal Government equal opportunity regulator the WGEA as an ‘Employer of Choice for Gender Equality’ since the program’s inception in 2014, and is currently the only mining company to hold this distinction.

As well as being a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, St Barbara is a financial supporter of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, and participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project. St Barbara’s sustainability approach aligns with the underlying principles of these international sustainability organisations.
